The Classic Chanel

Coco Chanel

Who doesn’t know about this legendary brand? Well, I’m pretty sure you all do but if you don’t, I have a few Chanel classics that you must know about!

I remember when I first heard about Chanel from a friend of mine. Back then I had no idea I wanted to be in the fashion industry and therefore had no clue about ‘Chanel’. As much as I remember, I didn’t obviously google it at first, but it took me a while to figure out how amazing this brand has been.

Anyways, I did do my research and found so many new things about the brand and Coco herself. If you know me, you know that I’m a fashion student at Humber and let me tell you one thing. I have studied so much about Chanel’s journey and how incredibly Coco herself, has inspired so many people out there and even me.

Brief history

Coco Chanel started her career with the opening of her first shop in the fashion capital, Paris in 1913. As much as people enjoyed shopping from her, they loved her jersey dresses. These dresses were her first hit which gave rise to her sales and was definitely great for her brand.

Later, the company was taken over by Karl Lagerfeld after Coco died in 1971.

Now that you have an idea about how it all started lets talks about the classics she won our hearts with:

  1. First product: Chanel hats

The first ever product launched by Chanel were hats. Later on she started making clothing and found her way to the amazing tweed dresses and of course, suits!

2. The little black dress

If you love black dresses, you must be aware of the LBD trend. I remember the time it was all over the world and even now I see people wearing black dresses all the time. The history behind this is that Coco wore this black dress to the mourning after the death of her lover and it became a classic since then. Well, who knew fashion trends could come like that!

3. Chanel 2.55

You must have seen the new version of this flap bag with the Chanel logo but this is the vintage one. It’s made with distressed calfskin and has gold and silver hardware.

I found an unboxing video of this bag , here’s the link if you want to checkout:

4. Chanel No.5

Chanel launched it’s first fragrance named Chanel No.5. It’s still quite a popular perfume amongst the elite. They have a huge collection under the same name now.

Coco believed that a women should wear perfume wherever she would like to be kissed. She went far away to get the perfect feminine floral fragrances. Here’s a link to a short movie which explains more about the perfume and its glory!

5. The classic tweed

As much as I love Chanel, I can’t help but admire Coco for her vision. While none thought of tweed as a glamorous fabric , she had an eye for it. I have seen so many copies of Chanel suits in the market and as far as I know, even if people won’t know its taken from her designs, they like it . That clearly shows how much her style is still appreciated.

Channel’s passion for tweed and feminine clothing led to beautiful suits in different colours and textures. She was the first to free women from the corsets by offering much more comfortable clothing. She would always combine menswear and comfort. She was known for her legendary collarless jackets and well fitted skirts which gave women the freedom they have always wished for. Comfort always came first for her but at the same time she wanted everything to be feminine. She clearly loved tailored clothes that would enhance a women’s body and make her look even more gorgeous!
